How to turn a ChatGPT programme into a training schedule
A method to review an AI-generated programme, split it into workouts, and follow it in Tempo.
- ChatGPT
- programme
- schedule
A programme produced by ChatGPT can generate ideas, but a list of exercises is not yet a usable schedule. You need to check its assumptions, choose the days, define sets and rest periods, and keep a progression you can review later.
Tempo is the execution layer: once your programme is decided, the app helps place it in the week and guide each workout.
1. Review before importing
Treat the programme as a draft:
- are the goal and training level explicit?
- is the required equipment available?
- does the frequency fit your real week?
- are volume and intensity defined?
- do the exercises fit your constraints?
- is the progression rule clear?
An AI does not diagnose conditions and does not automatically know your history. For an injury, illness, pregnancy, or unusual symptom, have the plan reviewed by a qualified professional.
2. Turn blocks into workouts
Name each workout, then keep these details for every exercise:
- sets and repetitions, or duration;
- planned load or intensity;
- rest;
- useful technique cues;
- exercise order.
Do not replace a precise prescription with a generic format. “3 × 8 with 90 seconds of rest” does not mean “do Tabata”.
A public exercise such as this one can be found in Tempo’s library:
3. Place the programme in the week
Start with real constraints: available days, maximum session length, recovery, and other sports. Then distribute the workouts. Two perfect sessions that never fit your calendar are less useful than a simpler schedule you can follow.
Leave enough room to move a workout without rewriting the entire programme.
4. Define progression
Give the programme a measurable rule: add repetitions within a range, add a small amount of resistance, extend a duration, or move to a variation only once clear criteria are met.
Change one main variable at a time. That makes it easier to link an improvement — or a negative response — to the change you made.
5. Connect ChatGPT to Tempo
Tempo provides an MCP server. A compatible assistant can read your schedule and, with the permissions you choose, draft or adjust workouts. Connection goes through Tempo’s consent screen and can be revoked from your profile.
The connector is optional: you can also enter the programme manually. Either way, Tempo preserves the operational structure — schedule, guided workout, exercises, and progress — instead of leaving the programme buried in a conversation.
